The UCLL Social Tech Hub is a collaborative environment that connects education, research, technology and the wellbeing sector around real societal challenges. Students and educators work alongside researchers, companies and community organisations to explore and co-develop responses to issues related to wellbeing, care and inclusion. Learning is embedded in community-based projects, living labs and co-creation processes, giving students opportunities to apply disciplinary knowledge while engaging with the people and organisations directly involved in these challenges. The Hub provides a strong example of how curricula can remain connected to changing professional and societal contexts through sustained external partnerships. Within the GREEN LEAF perspective, the practice brings together Learning, through experiential and community-connected pedagogies; Engagement, through collaboration across education, research, industry and civil society; and Action, by turning shared knowledge and experimentation into solutions with potential value for communities and the wellbeing sector. This University of Galway initiative shows how universities and communities can co-create sustainability learning around local knowledge, lived experience and shared concerns. Developed through a transdisciplinary partnership with rural development organisations and community members in the west of Ireland, the approach brings academic expertise into dialogue with community knowledge to develop a public sustainability course. The model combines co-creation, place-based learning, inquiry and blended participation. Rural digital hubs enable community groups to participate locally while connecting online with university educators and other communities. Learning begins with locally identified sustainability challenges and develops through workshops, shared resources, reflection and collaborative exploration of possible responses. A distinctive feature is the repositioning of the university as both a knowledge partner and a learning participant. The Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) model is a team-based approach to higher education that brings undergraduate students from different disciplines and academic years into long-term, faculty-led research and innovation projects. Instead of working on short assignments that end with a course, students can remain with the same project team across several semesters, progressively taking on more complex roles and responsibilities. VIP teams operate as collaborative research groups in which faculty and graduate students provide mentorship, experienced students support newcomers, and students gradually develop leadership, research, collaboration and problem-solving capabilities. Projects are connected to faculty research and often involve community, industry or government partners, giving students opportunities to contribute to authentic problems while earning academic credit. As a practice for green and sustainability-oriented curricula, the VIP model is particularly valuable because it provides the time, interdisciplinary environment and continuity needed to engage with complex sustainability challenges. It connects learning, collaboration and action, enabling students to apply disciplinary knowledge, work across boundaries and contribute to projects with tangible research and societal outcomes.

The University of Cyprus implemented a university-wide initiative to embed sustainability education into its academic programs, aiming to align with the global agenda for climate action and sustainable development. This included the integration of sustainability-related courses across undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in fields such as engineering, education, biology, and architecture.

The Master in Agroecology and Food Sovereignty (MAFS) integrates academic study with practical, action-based research in diverse agroecological communities across Europe and internationally. Structured around four modules, Action Learning and Action Research, Food Sovereignty, Sustainable Agroecosystems, and Food Systems and Economy, the programme guides students through immersive phases that include foundational theory, research preparation, community-based action research, and final thesis development. Students engage actively in farm management, food processing, community interaction and research, building the capacity to drive sustainable transformations in the agrifood system. The programme was developed within the H2020 NextFOOD project to create learner-centred, participatory, action-based agrifood education, and it monitors student progress using competency measures inspired by the NextFOOD framework. It prepares graduates to become facilitators of sustainable change and equips them with holistic, transdisciplinary knowledge spanning the ecological, social, economic, cultural and policy dimensions of food systems. It is a strong, replicable model of experiential curriculum greening in higher education.

This practice describes how the University of Trento (UniTrento) has progressively integrated environmental sustainability into its curricula, governance and daily campus life through the "UniTrento Sostenibile" strategy and its Green Office and through specific initiatives connected with the University strategic plan.
